Kate and I met in 2002 as we were starting our teaching careers in Washington, DC.  Kate had moved from Escondido, California where she grew up to DC and moved to the school I was teaching at after teaching at another DC charter school.  I had wrapped up a stint in a local band playing and recording music and had finished my first year teaching middle school.  

Kate and I made a strong connection after meeting. Our shared interests included teaching, family, our creative spirits and a love of art.  Kate loves to quilt and has made a practice of teaching quilting and exploring textiles. I grew up playing bass in the Woodstock area and continued to play through college, even playing full time for a number of years. Today, we both continue to pursue our passions and connect regularly to others through them. 

Thirteen years ago we moved to North County San Diego, near Kate’s hometown. Although we are not very good at interior decorating, we have tried to fill our house with bright colors, music, and art.  Musical instruments like basses (too many!) guitars, amps, drums, violins, cellos, and a harp are easily on hand in many rooms.  Quilts, artwork - bought and made- and natural wood and stone artifacts adorn walls and surface tops. Painting easels, sewing machine tables, draft tables, and even a large floor loom live as and next to commonplace furniture.  We found joy, beauty, and happiness in creativity and it became one of the bedrocks of our family.  All of our four children now in middle school, high school and college have gravitated to a musical instrument (or two) and have become quite comfortable with hand work skills, drawing, painting, or woodworking. 

While in the Watson Hollow House we dreamed of connecting our love and artistic passions with the local community.  We thought of Peekamoose Mountain Creative as a place to share and showcase local art and artists, teach art classes, and gather for exhibitions, concerts, readings, and family friendly events in the community.  This website is one manifestation of that dream and we hope that you will join us in our exploration and sharing of art.
